Why Vegetarian?

Various reasons to be a vegetarian

The physical vegetarian

One can read in many places what is substantiated by medical studies: a vegetarian diet is healthy. Many of the illnesses in our modern, affluent society originate from eating too much meat. Then there is the worry not to become infected from animals with Mad Cow Disease. The person who follows a vegetarian diet for the benefit of his own body because it is healthier can be called a vegetarian who focuses on his body.

This kind of vegetarian follows a vegetarian diet mainly for reasons of health. He often follows certain rules and forces himself to live up to his body-focused thoughts. Unity with nature is not the main thing in his life.

Sometimes the body is overtaxed. Side-effects can occur from a quick, forced change in one’s diet from one containing meat to a vegetarian one. A change in one’s diet that is too fast and forced can result in depression and moody or fanatical behavior.

The ecological vegetarian

The person who is intelligent or does not want to leave a poisoned, desolate world to his children cannot tolerate the exploitation of natural resources that results from factory farming. The person who thinks ecologically and sensibly will not eat meat, for he knows the ecological inter-relationships. Consequentially, he will become a vegetarian.

The spiritual vegetarian

The spiritual vegetarian recognizes and acknowledges the all-ruling Spirit in all Being, in all areas of his life, including his diet. He lets himself be guided by the inner power, God, thus gaining the strength to do good. The spiritual vegetarian is a person who does not focus on his body, but above all, on his cosmic soul. He is not a vegetarian solely for the benefit of his body, but out of love for God and everything that is divine. He first pays attention to the well-being of his soul and all of nature, and then to the well-being of his body. He will first learn the laws of God and also put them into practice in his life to the extent that he is able to comprehend them and to live according to them. A proper diet will be the result.

Changing one’s diet

People do not become vegetarians by changing their principles of life from one day to the next, but as they actualize the laws of God, they also shape their lives in a positive way, step by step. With this change in one’s way of living toward the positive, the person’s diet also changes.

For the spiritual vegetarian, the change over to a vegetarian diet is a conscious and gradual process that does not have any accompanying side-effects or after-effects such as can appear when the diet is changed forcibly or following rigid rules.

His diet is more and more oriented toward the fruits of trees and bushes, which give him their fruits year after year.

Conclusion

As long as the thoughts, feelings and inclinations of people, including vegetarians, are and remain focused on life on Earth, the world will not change much.

Man should find his way to the deeper roots of life, to the spirit-power, to the life that is and lasts eternally. God, the power, wants to permeate all of mankind. The products of nature are also gifts of God, and should be managed economically. This also holds true for vegetarians.
